Techniques and strategies governing basketball have evolved over time and are still evolving. A decade ago basketball teams played with isolation. Earlier, the main role used to be a one man game and the other four were considered less significant. However, changes have come in the techniques since then. Now the entire team is considered important to win a game.

The "center" position has become "small forward" position. The ball movement has also evolved. Now more and more jump shots are taken. Strategies of defense include Zone defense and man to man defense. When each player is given the task of defending a specific area of the court, it is called zone defense while each player guards a particular opponent in man to man defense. Man to man defense is more important than the zone defense. There are certain techniques used by the players to score more points.
